Adult Day Services and Onsite Activities
Options Unlimited is Mount Aloysius’s adult day program. Individuals who do not choose to go off site for day programming or employment have the opportunity to participate with our onsite day program. Options Unlimited also coordinates the majority of our resident’s activities and community outings.
Options Unlimited offers a variety of therapeutic activities throughout the day. Some of these activities include:
Woodshop Room – this is where residents make wood crafts that are all available to purchase. The residents help sand, paint and stain amongst other things.
Options Room – This is a sensory room where residents can go and relax in the reading nook or enjoy the huge sensory board. At any point this room is dimly lit with salt lamps, hanging lights, fiber optic lights, etc.
Gym – Options Unlimited has a full-size gym with bleachers, basketball hoops, a volleyball net and a scoreboard. Residents can often be found shooting hoops through their day. This gym is also available to the public for a variety of activities including; ball practice, birthday parties, baby showers, tournaments etc.
Greenhouse – Options operates a large fully functional year-round greenhouse. Residents utilize this area to grow their own herbs, flowers, and succulents from seeds. Residents thoroughly enjoy coming out to the garden to help plant, water, grow and harvest. The greenhouse is also open for several months and welcomes the community to come and purchase plants.
Shelter House – A covered shelter house is also available with several picnic tables. This is a wonderful area to have picnics and enjoy nature at its finest. There is also a full-size track and a field in the middle of the track that can be used for games, practices, Special Olympics etc.
Art Therapy Room – this is where residents have the opportunity to express emotion through art. Residents create artwork for their apartment, give as a gift or sell to the public.
Music Therapy Room – This room is complete with bells, drums, maracas, triangles and other musical instruments in which the residents are able to learn and play.
Workout Room – the workout room is a large room that residents can use at any time. It is equipped with treadmills, elliptical machines, free weights, recumbent bikes and other low impact equipment. Yoga is also done in this area for a therapeutic workout.
Training Kitchen – There is a training kitchen onsite that is equipped with a stove, microwave, refrigerator and plenty of room for seating. This area is used for cooking programs and is also available for rental to the public.
Swimming Pool – Mount Aloysius has a large indoor pool with a hot tub that can be used year-round. The pool house has a men’s and women’s locker room and changing area with showers. The pool is fully handicapped accessible with a ramp and railings that go all the way down into the pool. We have certified lifeguards on duty at all times when our residents are in the pool.
